MANUFACTURE OF PARTICLEBOARD FROM Pinus elliottii Engelm. WITH VENEER INCLUSION
Main Article Content
Abstract
The main objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of veneer inclusion in the structural composition of particleboard made from Pinus elliottii Engelm. The materials utilized were “sliver” type furnish, 1.6mm veneer and ureia-formadheyde resin. The experimental chart was formulated as: T1 - board with 100% furnish, T2 - board with inclusion of one veneer at core line, T3 - board with inclusion of two veneers at top and bottom line and T4 - board with two veneers at top and bottom line and one veneer at core line. The results of water absorption, thickness sweeling and springback were improved with veneer inclusion (T2, T3 and T4). The modulus of elasticity and modulus of rupture to cross grain direction decreased with veneer inclusion. On the other hand, at the parallel direction the results of MOE and MOR were higher with inclusion of two and three veneer respectively, showing the influence of high wood resistence at parallel direction of grain. The internal bond presented similar behavior. The general analysis showed that veneer inclusion on the top and bottom surfaces improve the dimensional stability and mechanical properties of the particleboards.
