SELECTION OF MERCHANTABLE VOLUME AND DRY WEIGHT EQUATIONS FOR Pinus taeda
Main Article Content
Abstract
Seven mathematical models were evaluated in their prediction ability to estimate merchantablestem volume and dry weight, both inside and outside bark, for 6 and 11-years-old Pinus taeda trees, planted in Telêmaco Borba, State of Paraná. On the basis of criteria used for comparative analysis, the combined variable model (Y = b0 + b1 d2h) was judged to be the most suitable, due to accuracy and precision of the estimates of individual tree volumes and dry weights for 6-year-old plantations and for grouping of all trees studied . For 11- year-old plantations, the best model to estimate volume and dry weight used the independent variable d2 (Y = b0 + b1 d2), selected due to simplicity and good prediction ability.
