THE HOMEGARDENS (BACK YARD) OF THE AGRARIAN REFORM PROJECT RIO DA AREIA, OF TEIXEIRA SOARES COUNTY, PR

Abstract
The vegetable and animal composition, the structure and the use of home gardens products of the Agrarian Reform Project Rio da Areia, of Teixeira Soares County – PR (Brazil), created 15 years, were studied. The home gardens have, on average, 250 m2 of area and are classified as simultaneous. A total of 68 vegetable species and 6 animal species, distributed in 32 botanic families and 58 genera, were found. There exit, on average, 22 vegetable species per home garden. These plants can be classified as follows: 20 fruitful, 19eating vegetables, 14 medicinal, 9 wood, 7 condiments and 6 ornamental. The plant distribution and installations for raising animals follow a considerable degree of organization. All animal and vegetal production is consumed by families.
