THE INSTRUMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL COMPENSATION IN BRAZIL AND IN THE STATE OF MINAS GERAIS

Abstract
Compensation for environmental projects that cause significant environmental impact is an instrument established by Article 36 of Law No. 9.985/2000. The objective of this study was to describe and analyze relevant environmental legislation to the Environmental Compensation instrument in Brazil and use the state of Minas Gerais as a case study. For this we adopted the techniques of bibliographic and documentary research. The result showed that environmental compensation increased in the state of Minas Gerais and can be an important tool to help in environmental conservation through protected areas.
