GERMINATION ASSESSMENT ON DIFFERENT OSMOTIC POTENTIALS AND SEED AND SEEDLING MORPHOLOGIC CHARACTERIZATION OF THE Ateleia glazioviana BAILL (TIMBO)
Main Article Content
Abstract
Ateleia glazioviana Bail species is an arboreal of Fabaceae family, it is used for recovering degraded areas by showing a raised plasticity and rusticity growth. The objective of this work was to: (i) evaluate the effect of polietilenoglicol 6000 on the germination and (ii) characterize the external and internal morphology of the seed and seedling. The study was carried out in The Forest Seeds Laboratory- Universidade Federal do Paraná (UFPR), in Parana State-Brazil. The experiment was established in gerbox (40 seeds on 6 filter papers) with 20 mL of osmotic solution. Gerbox was sealed with PVC plastic film and led to germinate in Mangelsdorf type chamber (under light at 25ºC ). Six osmotic potential was tested: 0.0; -0.2; -0.4; -0.6; -0.8 and 1.0MPa. It was showed that the germination is inversely proportional to the PEGconcentration, no germination occurred at 1.0MPa. External and internal morphology of the seed and seedling was described and illustrated to the species. In conclusion, Ateleia glazioviana germination is affected by osmotic potential, low level of percentage and speed germination occurred with increase of osmotic potential. The germination was severely decreased at 0.4 Mpa.
